Adventure Activities

We offer the widest range of activities available, with the most cost effective options. We can cater for all ages, from six to sixty years old (or over!). Here’s a taste of the full range of adventures and spectacular sites that BMAC has to offer.

Whitewater Rafting

Rafting

We have access to grade 2 and 3 rivers with wild rapids to suit every group. We have large medium and small rafts that can take 2 to 7 clients in each raft. We have qualified and skilled guides that can guide your raft down the river or we can even get you self guiding your rafts if you’re really keen! We use the world famous Tongariro river and some of the lesser traveled natural beauties that surround us as well. All safety gear will be provided and a briefing so you are in the know for everything rafting related.

Mountaineering-group

Mountaineering

The Maunga around here are famous for all the right reasons they are stunningly beautiful, awe inspiring to be on and sometimes unpredictable with their weather. We treat the mountains with the respect they deserve and also enjoy all they have to offer. If you want to climb the ever steaming Mt Ruapehu to behold the amazing views and possibly see Mt Taranaki, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro all in one panoramic spin from the right spot up there. We can assist in that. If you want to learn how to use ice axe and crampons we can help with that. Practice your ice axe arrest, dig a snow cave or find your avalanched friend (or buried glove and transceiver). These are all things we love to do and share with those that join us.

Whitewater Rafting

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing can happen all year round. If it is raining we have our custom built indoor wall that we can use to hone and develop skills. Then we can transfer outside to Mead’s Wall or Whakapapa Crag to climb some real rock. We can also set up a Mead’s Wall traverse that will take you over and around Mead’s Wall giving you areas of climbing, scrambling and abseiling with some amazingly exposed places to really get the blood pumping. Spectacular views are everywhere on the real rock experience.

Whitewater Rafting

Canyoning

Canyoning takes us into the places that you always wanted to visit as kids but were always told to stay back from the edge. Waikoko canyon has swims, jumps, climbs and lowers it really is a spectacular place to visit. We also have other canyons that we use depending on group ability and passion for getting amongst it.

Whitewater Rafting

Mountain Biking

We have our own skills track on site and a set of tracks that we can cycle to or are a short drive away. If you are new to bikes or wanting to push your limits we have it ready for you. A trip out from BMAC to visit the pumice pit and hone some skills on a fun ride that takes us through the village by the famous spiral railway along a gravel track. A half day around the Waikune Forest, down Fishers track or Old Coach Road. If you’re keen on something to push you, then how about a full day on the 42nd Traverse. You will be guided by one or more of our staff with lunch snacks and spare parts depending on what the trails throw at you.

Whitewater Rafting

Canoeing

We can go for a canoe on Lake Otamangakau or a trip down the world famous Whanganui river. Canoes can go to great places and are great spaces to get there in. We can strap two together to make a super stable raft as well. Have lunch on the water or paddle to an overnight camp site. Canoeing can offer it all.

Whitewater Rafting

Caving

Okupata caves is a great place to explore if you have never been caving before or have done a little bit and are keen for a challenge. It has squeezes, crawls, slides and water. We can spend half a day down there and not cover everything there is to do. It is a great place for groups to learn the value of help and support in a very different environment to where they normally hang out.

Whitewater Rafting

Tramping

There is no end of places that you can go tramping and we are fortunate to have a selection of the finest areas close to us. Tongariro National Park and the Kaimanawas. We can do multi day trips for that authentic kiwi camp or just pop in for a day to see some spectacular sights.

Whitewater Rafting

High Ropes

We have a high ropes course on site here at BMAC. It sits ready and waiting for you to climb up to the beam or islands. Then you walk out and meet a friend before potentially taking on a variety of challenges before being lowered back down to terra firma. If you’re not too keen on the climbing up we can set up the big swing, your group can pull you up and you get to release yourself for a REALLY BIG SWING. This is where you find out if you scream out loud or with your inner voice! The big swing is loved by our groups and is always the thing they want more of.
